His research interests include software engineering, regulation and competition in electronic services, biomedical applications. Beyond his teaching responsibilities, Emm. Giakoumakis has published in the area of Computer Science.
Moreover, he had central involvement in the elaboration of studies pertinent to introduction of Information Technologies in major organizations of the public and / or private sector. In addition, he has contributed to the drafting of programmes related to introduction and / or promotion of Information Society in Greece.
Emm. From 1993 to 1996 he was a visiting professor at PaulValery University in Montpellier. Since September 2000 he has been an Assistant Professor at the Department of International Economic Relations and Development teaching "Economic Dynamics and Comparative Economic Systems". Athanasios Katsis is Rector of the University of Peloponnese and Professor of Statistics in Educational Research at the Department of Social and Educational Policy. Having graduated from the Department of Mathematics of the National Kapodistrian University of Athens, he completed his postgraduate and doctoral studies at George Washington University in the USA. He has worked as a statistical consultant at the World Bank and has taught, among others, at the Universities of Toledo, Ohio, the Aegean and Cyprus.
His articles have been published in Greek and international scientific journals such as Labor Relations Review, New Education, International Journal of Learning, International Studies in Sociology of Education Journal of Applied Measurement, Journal of Statistical Theory and Applications, Journal of Computational Methods in Science and Engineering, Statistics and Simulation, Journal of Applied Statistical Science, Journal of Statistical Planning andInference, Journal of Applied Mathematics and Decision Sciences.

- 1987-1991: Πανεπιστήμιο Τύμπινγκεν: Έμμισθος ερευνητής και μέλος της διεπιστημονικής ερευνητικής ομάδας του Πανεπιστημίου του Tübingen «Internationale und Europäische Wirtschaftsordnung» («Διεθνής και Ευρωπαϊκή Οικονομική Τάξη»), που ανέλαβε το ομότιτλο ερευνητικό πρόγραμμα, χρηματοδοτούμενο από την Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, Γερμανική Εταιρεία Ερευνών), εξαετούς διάρκειας. Το επί μέρους πρόγραμμα IV αφορούσε στην «Εξωτερική Οικονομική Πολιτική της ΕΚ» (κατά τα 2 πρώτα έτη) και την »Ολοκλήρωση της Εσωτερικής Αγοράς» (κατά τα 2 επόμενα έτη). O ίδιος είχα την ερευνητική και συγγραφική ευθύνη του υποπρογράμματος IV. Στο πλαίσιο του εν λόγω προγράμματος ασχολήθηκα: Με τη συγγραφή μονογραφίας με τίτλο: «Die EG-Außenwirtschaftspolitik und die Weltwirtschaftsordnung» («Η Εξωτερική Οικονομική Πολιτική της ΕΚ και η Παγκόσμια Οικονομική Τάξη»). Με τη συγγραφή μελετών γύρω από ειδικά θέματα της Ευρωπαϊκής Ολοκλήρωσης και της Διεθνούς Οικονομίας. Ορισμένες μελέτες ήταν προϊόν διεπιστημονικής έρευνας λόγω της φύσης και των στόχων του Προγράμματος. Επίσης, ορισμένες δεν δημοσιεύθηκαν επειδή χρησιμοποιήθηκαν ως συμβουλευτικά κείμενα από τις γερμανικές αρχές άσκησης διεθνούς και ευρωπαϊκής οικονομικής πολιτικής. Maistros Panagiotis is an Expert on Public Management and Local Government (Reform Engineer). From 2005 and onwards he serves as a Scientific Consultant to the Central Union of Municipalities of Greece. During 2010–2013 he was elected councillor of the Regional Council of Attica. He is teaching various undergraduate courses, including Urban Planning, Urban Geography, Housing Networks, Methods and Applications of Urban Design and Environmental Planning He has participated in more than 40 European and National research projects, conducted by NTUA. The main research fields of his activity comprise integrated urban and transport planning towards the sustainable city, integration of alternative means in urban areas ( bicycle network planning, evaluation and infrastructure design, urban & transport design for pedestrians and public transport), environmental planning (with emphasis on the vulnerable road users) of large scale metropolitan areas (campuses, metropolitan Parks, old airport, coastal areas, central zones), mobility management and policies for the promotion of alternative means. The research funding comes both from national bodies such as municipalities, ministries, urban planning and transportation agencies, and the European Commission (FP4, FP5, FP6, ERDF, INTERREG). Today is the General Secretary of Spatial Planning and Urban Environment of the Hellenic Ministry of Environment and Energy.

Since 1991 he has taught in various Institutions (Local Government Organizations, ELKEPA, National Bank, University of Athens, as a special Scientific Staff etc.), and he is member of Main Teaching Staff of EKDDA since 1995, teaching mainly topics for Computer Science and New Technologies, completing over 5,000 hours of teaching.

He also taught in the Department of International and European Studies – University of Macedonia (visiting lecturer) – the Department of International Economic Relations and Development – Democritus University of Thrace, Visiting lecturer and Assistant Professor from 2002-2007 – and the Hellenic Open University – 2002 until today – . He graduated (1990) from the Department of International Relations of Panteion University in Athens. He was awarded both his MA in International Relations (1991) and his Ph.D. in International Relations and IPE (1998) from the University of Sussex (UK). He accomplished (2000) his post doctorate thesis at the Hellenic Center of Political Research of Panteion University with a fellowship from the State Fellowship Foundation. His post-doctoral research topic is “The IPE of the relations between the EU and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the ex-Soviet Union”. From 1999 until 2002 he has been a Visiting Research Fellow of the Postgraduate Center for Culture, Development and the Environment (CDE) of the University of Sussex. He was the Chairman (2013-2017) of the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of the Peloponnese and Vice Chairman of the Special Research Committee of the University. He served (2016-2018) as a member of the Board of the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education (DI.P.A.E.). In the academic year 2017-2018, he was the Dean of the School of Security and Global Studies at the American University in the Emirates in Dubai. From February 2020 onwards, he has been appointed President of the Rectors’ Conference for Cypriot Universities.

- Assignment by the National Bank of Greece (jointly with 4 other researchers from the Athens University of Economics and Business, the University of Crete and the Centre for Planning and Economic Research) of research and writing project entitled "Sources of economic history of modern Greece: quantitative data and statistical series, 1830-1939». In this project he was responsible for the forecasting of quantitative data and statistical series, applying statistical and econometric methodologies. This work was published in 2007 jointly by the National Bank of Greece and KEPE.

Today he serves as a Professor at the University of Athens, Department of Political Science and Public Administration. He is a regular member of the Council of Europe Group of Independent Experts on Local Government (Local and Regional Authorities, Strasbourg, selected for a second 5-year term service as a full member in 2018). He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Local Government (ITA, 2006-2011) and the National Center for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA). Former President of the National Center for Public Administration and Local Government (2010-2012). He has participated in many law drafting committees (Vice President of the Legislative Committee for the administrative reform of "Kallikratis" 2010). He has conducted numerous surveys in Greece and abroad with a total of more than 120 publications in Greek, English, German and French (2777 citations in the international literature, according to GoogleScholar).
